Albedo is the second fundamental phase of the Alchemical Work. It represents the phase of Purification and the "Cleansing" of matter, symbolized by the Rosa Alba (White Rose) and the White Queen emerging from the chaos of the Nigredo. It is the moment when the Soul is separated and purified.

The Context of the Work

  • Where it is located: Albedo follows the difficult Nigredo (Blackening/Rotting) and precedes Citrinitas (Yellowing).

  • Meaning: It symbolizes overcoming the crisis, acquiring mental clarity , inner truth and the beginning of spiritual light.

  • Color: White (or Silver), the color of the Moon and purity.

  • Visual Symbol: The White Queen wearing purified robes inside the vase. This represents the Soul that has been cleansed and freed from the influences of crude matter.
