Spinello – Product Sheet
Physical and chemical characteristics of Spinel
Spinel is a magnesium aluminum oxide, with the chemical formula MgAl₂O₄, belonging to the cubic crystal system. Its hardness is 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale and it occurs in a wide range of colors: red, pink, blue, purple, orange, gray, and even black.
It has often been confused with ruby, so much so that some famous "rubies" (such as the English Crown Rubies) are actually spinels. But Spinel has an identity all its own: it is the stone of truth that reveals itself beneath deception, of the noble heart that seeks no recognition.
Family of belonging, sister stones and colors
Spinel has no close relatives in gemology, but spiritually it is close to ruby, garnet, fluorite and tourmaline.
Red Spinel stimulates courage and balanced passion; blue brings mental clarity; black protects and anchors. Its purple and pink shades work on the heart and emotional transformation. Each color carries a distinct, yet always elegant and precise, energy current.
Most important deposits and countries
Found in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Tanzania, Afghanistan, and Madagascar, Myanmar spinels are known for their intensity and purity. Each crystal bears the imprint of its homeland, but also a kind of quiet inner nobility. It's not a flashy stone: those who choose it often do so for its deep resonance.
Zodiac – Spinel
Red Spinel is associated with the sign of Aries, blue Spinel with Aquarius, and black Spinel with Scorpio. It's a fluid and multifaceted stone, capable of adapting to the deepest needs of the moment.
The associated planet is Mars, but with a hint of Mercury: refined action, intelligent energy.
The constellation that represents it is Corona Borealis, a small celestial diadem, a symbol of silent truth that shines in those who know how to see it.
Spinel Element
Spinel embraces Fire and Air. Fire gives it drive, passion, and vitality; Air, on the other hand, refines and elevates it, making it a subtle messenger. It is a stone that ignites without burning, that awakens without disorienting. It brings clean, precise, reorganizing energy. It works to restore balance where there is dispersion or stagnation.
The Divinatory Ways and Spinel
Norse Runes – Teiwaz
Teiwaz is the rune of the sacred warrior, of justice, of integrity. With Spinel, it turns inward: the warrior fights not without, but within himself. It is luminous discipline, conscious strength, aligned will.
Spinel enhances the ability to act with clarity and decisiveness.
Tarot – Arcanum: Justice
Justice is truth, balance, and rectitude. Spinel represents it with sobriety: it cuts through illusion, restores the right measure, and restores centeredness. It is the inner sword that does not wound, but defines. It is the scale that weighs without judgment.
I Ching – Hexagram 6: The Conflict
This hexagram doesn't speak of war, but of the need to assert the truth amidst chaos. Spinel helps one do so without anger, with clean firmness. It brings clarity in crises, stability in decisions, and elegance in confrontation.
Chinese Zodiac – Spinel
Sign: Tiger
Element: Fire
The Tiger represents instinct, courage, and authority. Spinel refines it, giving it balance and breathing space. It is a stone that strengthens the back and the heart, teaching one to fight with integrity. The Fire that animates it is noble, never destructive.
Tibetan Zodiac – Spinel
Sign: Dragon
Element: Metal
The Tibetan Dragon is power and vision. Spinel gives it clarity of spirit, helping it use its fire constructively. Metal makes it sharp, yet precious: it is the blade of the right word, the courage of truth spoken with grace.
Ancient Egyptian Zodiac – Spinel
Sign: Maat
Deity: Maat
Maat is the cosmic order, the truth that keeps the universe in balance. Spinel, under her protection, becomes a stone of sacred righteousness, of spiritual precision. It helps one recognize one's path without compromise, but with compassion.
The symbolic guardians of Spinello
The Spinel Keeper is the Knight of Light Terpsichore. He fights not with strength, but with the truth of the heart. He wears light armor, made of determination and listening.
He is the guardian of the right choice, of the clear word, of the clean path.
Whoever encounters him discovers the strength of simplicity, the nobility of a restrained gesture, the power of those who act with clarity.
Shamanism
On the shamanic path, Spinel is the stone of intelligent fire. It is linked to the Spirit of the Subtle Sun: the one who illuminates intuition, who matures courage, who guides with precision.
It is used in rites of decision, awakening of the will, and mental protection.
His Spirit Animal is the Falcon: sharp gaze, quick action, high flight.
Those who work with Spinel learn to cut away what is unnecessary, to act with subtle force, to remain centered even in the midst of the wind.
