Collection: The Initiatory Library of Stones - Serpentine
The initiatory library of the physical and chemical characteristic stones of the Serpentine
Serpentine is a group of magnesium silicate minerals with the general formula (Mg,Fe)₃Si₂O₅(OH)₄. Its name derives from its appearance, which resembles snakeskin: green, striped, often shiny or mottled. Its hardness is modest (2.5–5 on the Mohs scale), but its energy is dense, profound, and enveloping.
It's an earthy, grounded, ancient stone: it works with the slow rhythms of inner transformation. Serpentine doesn't scream, but whispers. It's a stone of subtle awakening, of reawakening dormant power.
Family of belonging, sister stones and colors
Serpentine is related to stones such as jadeite, nephrite, prehnite and epidote, all green stones of healing and renewal.
Its hues range from olive green to yellow-green, to black or brown varieties. Some contain inclusions of chrysotile, magnetite, or chromite. In all its forms, it evokes serpentine force : the rising movement, the awakening spiral, the path that coils upon itself.
Most important deposits and countries
The best-known deposits are found in Italy (Val d'Aosta, Tuscany), China, Russia, Afghanistan, the United States, and New Zealand. Some varieties, such as Serpentine nobile, are highly prized for their intense green color and compact structure.
The Italian Serpentine is linked to the sacred mountains, to the living rock, to the breath of ancient forests.
Zodiac – Serpentine
Serpentine resonates with the sign of Scorpio, but also with Capricorn. In Scorpio, it activates transformation, symbolic death, and rebirth. In Capricorn, however, it works on silent strength, constant ascent, and profound construction.
The associated planet is Pluto, but with a hint of Saturn.
The related constellation is Hydra, the celestial water serpent, which winds among the stars like an ancient living memory.
Serpentine Element
The element is Earth, but a sacred, chthonic, fertile Earth. It is the land of caves, roots, and alchemical transformations. Serpentine is linked to Kundalini, the serpentine energy that sleeps at the base of the spine.
It is a stone of slow and progressive awakening: it does not force, but guides the inner fire to rise, with patience and wisdom.
The Divinatory Ways and the Serpentine
Norse Runes – Jera
Jera is the rune of harvest, of cyclical time, of natural transformation. With Serpentine, it becomes a symbol of the serpent shedding its skin: shedding what is old, to be reborn. It is the law of return, of conscious growth. Nothing is hastened, but everything is fulfilled.
Tarot – Arcanum: Death
The often feared Arcanum XIII is actually the gateway to rebirth. With the Serpentine, Death becomes a sacred passage: letting what is finished die, to release new energy. It is not the end, but an initiation. It is the skin that sheds, not the soul that vanishes.
I Ching – Hexagram 49: The Revolution
Revolution in the I Ching is a sudden but just transformation, a necessary change. With the Serpentine, this revolution is internal, subtle, and profound. It is the consciousness shedding its skin, the body rediscovering its primordial energy.
Chinese Zodiac – Serpentine
Sign: Snake
Element: Earth
The Serpent is wise, silent, and mysterious. Serpentine strengthens its ability to regenerate, mutate, disappear, and reemerge. The Earth element anchors it, making it visible in the world, a bearer of ancient healing.
Tibetan Zodiac – Serpentine
Sign: Pig
Element: Water
The Tibetan Pig is deep, sensitive, and receptive. Serpentine nourishes its connection to the cycles of nature, to subtle healing, and to the knowledge that comes from the body. Water amplifies its gentleness, its power that doesn't show but acts.
Ancient Egyptian Zodiac – Serpentine
Sign: Wadjet
Deity: Wadjet
Wadjet is the cobra goddess, protector of the pharaoh, the spirit of the serpent that rises from the forehead as a symbol of spiritual power. With her, the Serpentine is an amulet of awakening, of silent protection, of intuitive knowledge. It is the voice of the sacred womb, the dance of transformation.
The symbolic guardians of the Serpentine
The Keeper of the Serpentine is the Green Serpent. He doesn't speak, but he dances. He slithers between roots, climbs bones, whispers to skin. He is the guardian of inner caves, of silent healing, of embodied knowledge.
Whoever encounters him learns to trust their body, to honor its natural rhythms, to change without breaking.
The Serpentine never forces: it accompanies the change, like an ancient heartbeat that reminds you of who you are.
Shamanism
In the shamanic path, Serpentine is a stone of the Sacred Earth. It is linked to the Underdark Serpent Spirit, who guards the memory of the world beneath the surface.
It is used in deep healing rituals, in Kundalini practices, in inner journeys guided by the body.
Her Spirit Animal is the Rainbow Serpent: guardian of the bridge between body and spirit, between earth and sky.
Those who work with Serpentine open the channels of deep energy, heal through the body, and are reborn through their own skin.
