Physical and chemical characteristics of Moonstone
Moonstone is a variety of orthoclase feldspar, with the chemical formula KAlSi₃O₈. It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, has a hardness of 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale, and a pearly luster. It exhibits an optical effect called adularescence: a blue-white glow that appears to move beneath the stone's surface. It is a symbol of sacred femininity, the lunar cycle, intuition, and dreams. It promotes connection with the unconscious, emotional balance, and inner wisdom.
