Collection: The Initiatory Stone Library - Tiger's Eye
Physical and chemical characteristics of Tiger's Eye
Tiger's Eye is a variety of microcrystalline quartz with fibrous crocidolite inclusions that, through a process of substitution by silica, give rise to the optical effect of "chatoyancy." Its typical color ranges from golden yellow to brown, with iridescent reflections resembling a feline eye. Composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂), it has a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. It is a stone that combines grounding and intuition, strengthening the will and protecting against psychic dangers. Traditionally, it is considered a "solar shield," capable of reflecting negative energy and illuminating the inner path.
Family of belonging, sister stones and colors
Belonging to the large quartz family, Tiger's Eye is related to Hawk's Eye (blue), Ox's Eye (red), Smoky Quartz, and Sunstone. Its golden and brown hues recall the fire of the Earth and sunlight filtered through foliage. It is a stone that works on personal energy, making it centered, stable, and protected. It promotes the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
Most important deposits and countries
The main deposits are found in South Africa, Namibia, Western Australia, Burma, India, Brazil, and the United States. Used since ancient times as a protective talisman, it was often worn while traveling to ward off evil spirits and enhance intuition. Today, it is still used as a stone of grounding and spiritual discernment.
