Physical and chemical characteristics of Dioptase

Dioptase is a copper silicate with the chemical formula CuSiO₃ H₂O. It crystallizes in the trigonal system, has a hardness between 5 and 5.5 on the Mohs scale, and has an intense vitreous luster. Its color is a deep, brilliant emerald green, making it one of the most visually spectacular stones, despite its fragility. It is a powerful stone for healing the heart, emotional liberation, and spiritual openness. It acts as a catalyst for emotional transformation and inner awareness, stimulating compassion and forgiveness.

Family of belonging, sister stones and colors

Dioptase is related to Malachite, Rhodochrosite, and Kunzite for its profound work on the heart and the emotional sphere. Its unique, vibrant, almost translucent green evokes the regenerative power of nature in its purest essence. It is the stone of love that heals and awakens, of emotional awareness free of illusions.

Most important deposits and countries

The main deposits are found in Namibia, Congo, Kazakhstan, Chile, Russia, and the United States (Arizona). Used since ancient times as an ornamental and protective stone, it was prized for its beauty and its calming and stabilizing properties. Each dioptase crystal is like a forest of crystallized light, a fragment of an inner garden.
