Collection: Hagalaz – Rune of inevitable transformation and purification

Hagalaz is hail. It is the ice grain that suddenly falls, shattering certainties, breaking what was fragile, but leaving the essence intact. It is the rune of inevitable events, of forces beyond control that, if understood, can become portals of regeneration.

Its shape evokes a axis that cuts in two, a cross that separates and crosses. Hagalaz is a rune of initiatory crisis: it does not punish, but purifies. It is the blow of fate that shakes the soul, the moment when nothing remains as it was, and what has no roots is swept away.

Its vibration is associated with black tourmaline, one of the most protective stones. Tourmaline absorbs negativity, creates a shield during transitions, and protects the auric field. Together with Hagalaz, it becomes a stable defense as the world changes, the strength that prevents us from getting lost in chaos.

To activate Hagalaz, the rune can be traced with chalk or charcoal on stone or earth. A gray or black candle is lit. The tourmaline should be kept in a pocket or held tightly in the right hand, the hand of will. The ritual sound is dry, clear, like a bolt of lightning piercing the silence:

“Haaaa-ga-laaaz!”

letting the voice become an echo, a vibration that breaks.

During meditation, Hagalaz appears as a dark sky that opens in flashes, like a rune that unravels and recomposes itself. It is a rune of karmic release, of sacred fracture, of initiation for those ready to let go.

Hagalaz is invoked when:

• destabilizing or unavoidable events are faced
• you want to make a break with the past
• you want protection during a process of internal deconstruction

A powerful ritual formula, to be used when you are ready to face change, even if it is uncomfortable:

“Hagalaz falls,
Hagalaz dissolves.
What is not useful, breaks.
What remains is my truth.”

Hagalaz is not to be feared, but honored. It is the rune of defining moments, of trials that are not chosen but which, once passed, reveal who we truly are. It is the storm that, as it passes, leaves clearer air and fertile land.
