Collection: Eihwaz – Rune of the sacred axis, protection and initiatory transformation

Eihwaz is the central pillar, the cosmic column that unites earth and sky, spirit and matter. It is the rune of Yggdrasill, the sacred tree that supports the nine worlds of Norse cosmology. Where everything changes, Eihwaz remains. Where the mind falters, it becomes root and vertigo. It is absolute stability in change, the shamanic path, the initiatory journey between dimensions.

Its shape is linear and forked, like a tree seen in cross-section, or like an energy channel open above and below. Eihwaz fears neither light nor shadow: it is the connection between the poles, the rune of profound resilience and inner vision.

It is joined by obsidian, a black, mirror-like volcanic stone, a powerful psychic shield. Obsidian absorbs deep fears, reflects hidden truths, and protects during astral travel or intense meditation. Together with Eihwaz, it becomes a key to accessing mystery, but also a protection when crossing inner thresholds.

To activate Eihwaz, trace the rune with chalk, charcoal, or clay on wood or stone. Light a purple or black candle, or a double candle (white and black) to honor the two poles. The obsidian should be held over the third eye or at the base of the spine. The ritual sound is deep, vibrant, similar to a deep breath that becomes a mantra:

“Eeei-hhhwaaazzz…”

making the sound vibrate between the belly and the forehead, like a vibrating bridge.

During meditation, Eihwaz appears as a vertical path between roots and stars, like a black tree pulsating with silent light. It brings lucid dreams, contact with the higher self, archetypes, and inner deaths and rebirths. It is a rune of occult transformation, but also of centered and stable power.

Eihwaz is invoked when:

• initiatory tests or periods of transition are faced
• you want protection during deep practices (meditation, dreams, astral travel)
• we work to establish a solid internal axis, despite the turbulence

A ritual formula of Eihwaz can be:

“Eihwaz passes through me,
Eihwaz supports me.
I am the bridge between worlds,
and nothing in me breaks.”

Eihwaz is the rune of the initiates, of those who know how to remain steadfast while everything changes, of those who have understood that there is no true growth without crossing the shadows, but also that no shadow can break an axis firmly rooted in one's own truth.
