Physical and chemical characteristics of garnet
Garnet is a group of minerals with an isometric structure and the general formula X₃Y₂(SiO₄)₃, where X and Y are metallic cations. The best-known varieties include almandine, pyrope, spessartine, grossular, and andradite. It has a hardness between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale and a vitreous luster. The most common color is deep red, but green, orange, pink, yellow, and even colorless garnets exist. It is a stone of passion, life force, grounding, and protection. It is also a symbol of rebirth, power, and fidelity.
